Mugla Sıtkı Koçman University Food Analysis Application, and Research Center was established by the regulations published in the Official Gazette No. 28147 on 19 December 2011.
 
Since ancient years, food effects on human health and the risks of the foodstuffs are in the agenda for authorities, scientists and consumers, especially nowadays the importance of these concepts has been understood more intensively. Undoubtedly one of the most important steps in ensuring food safety is the effectiveness of control and inspection.
One of the university’s missions for their city and region is social, cultural and scientific contribution. This center is established on this principle to support the food sector and the agricultural sector that provides basic inputs to the food sector, located in Mugla province and around.
By the January 10th, 2012 and 449 numbered Mugla University Senate decision, Food Analysis Laboratory was established at the central structure.
 
This laboratory has taken ‘Food Control Laboratory Work Qualification Certificate’ on December 25, 2012 According to the Food, Agriculture and Livestock Ministry Regulation 29/12/2011 date and 28157 numbered enacted published in the Official Gazette ‘Setting of the Task, Regulation, Authorities and Responsibilities also Working Principles and Procedures for Control Laboratory Organizations’
 
The Centre with having qualified academic staff intended to create the appropriate new research and work areas across the region. The center's activities include:
 
1. To do all kinds of needed analysis in the food industry, including the analyzes in the food analysis laboratory under national and / or international regulations to perform all kinds of necessary services,
 
2. Conducting scientific research on issues related to food, coordinate research and development activities,
 
3. The cooperation between universities and industry issues, relating to their working,
 
4. Training and working for food industry sector, make joint projects with institutions and organizations operating in this field,
 
5. If requested to do the analysis that produce and / or consume foods for all public / private sector organizations, to determine and report the suitability of food under the food legislation, standards, and technical specifications,
 
6. To organize education and training certificate programs at national and international level,
 
7. Provide materials and services at professional practice, practical place to work and internship for undergraduate and graduate education programs at University faculty / undergraduate and vocational schools that studied food analysis,
 
8. Gain recognition of laboratories within the scope at national and international level,
 
9. Provide consulting services on food safety issues.
